Québec City, October 2, 2018 – Following the recent provincial election, the Québec Mining Association (QMA) offers its warmest congratulations to François Legault, the premier elect and his team, and reiterates its willingness to help promote an approach to mineral development that is a source of both wealth and pride.

"Mr. Legault has made a commitment to deal with the long delays that are a characteristic of mining projects in Québec, in order to give it a more competitive edge at the international level. This is a concern that has been raised many times by our association, and we will make every effort to cooperate with the Premier and his team to achieve this key objective. The ongoing viability of Québec's mining industry depends on this," says Josée Méthot, the QMA's president and CEO.

The QMA also wishes to commend the dedication of the government led by Premier Couillard which, over the years, responded to many of the mining industry's concerns.

"Some friction still exists, and the new government will face some major challenges. We firmly believe that we will be able to continue building a trust-based relationship that will allow the mining sector to continue contributing to Québec's socio-economic prosperity. Over 45,000 jobs throughout Québec depend on the outcome," Ms. Méthot concludes.
