LOUIS P. GIGNAC INDUCTED INTO THE CANADIAN MINING HALL OF FAME
15/01/2016
Québec City, January 15, 2016 – Following the 27th annual Canadian Mining Hall of Fame ceremony, the Québec Mining Association (QMA) would like to congratulate Louis P. Gignac, a pioneer and leader in Québec's mining industry, on his induction.
"This recognition from the Mining Hall of Fame highlights the outstanding career of Mr. Gignac. The fact that he still plays an active role shows clearly that his passion for the mining industry lives on," says Josée Méthot, the QMA's president and CEO.
Mr. Gignac headed the mining company Cambior for over 20 years. During his career he helped create and manage fifteen mines and contributed to the growth and success of several gold mines in Québec, especially in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region. This made Québec a major player on the world stage.
"Everyone recognizes Mr. Gignac's leadership qualities and tenacity. He has always recognized the importance of training and research, and of enhancing the expertise of young French-speaking workers to allow them to make their mark both at home and abroad. The fact that Québec workers are present in such large numbers on mining sites worldwide reflects Mr. Gignac's involvement. Thanks to people like him, we can now count on an industry that remains prosperous despite traversing a difficult period. This recognition from outside Québec is fully deserved," Ms. Méthot concludes.
