FOUR MINING COMPANIES IN THE ABITIBI-TÉMISCAMINGUE AND NORD-DU-QUÉBEC REGIONS RECOGNIZED FOR THEIR HEALTH AND SAFETY PERFORMANCE

Québec City, June 11, 2018 – Good workplace health and safety (WHS) performance was once again rewarded by the Québec Mining Association (QMA) at its annual convention, when F.J. O’Connell trophies were presented to companies that have focused on achieving a high WHS score.
The prizewinning companies for 2018 are:
• In the "Underground mining—under 400,00 hours worked" category:
o Eldorado Gold Lamaque;
o Lapa mine, Agnico Eagle MInes;
• In the "Underground mining – over 400,000 hours worked" category:
o Raglan Mine, Glencore Company;
• In the "Surface, transportation and primary metals processing" category:
o Canadian Malartic mine, Canadian Malartic G.P.
"The F.J. O’Connell trophies recognize improvements in a company's performance, and its performance compared to the industry average. The mining sector aims to bring all companies up to the same standard, and this is rewarded by the coveted F.J. O’Connell trophy. We are extremely proud of our WHS results, and the commitment made by QMA members who take action, on a daily basis, to offer their workers the best possible working conditions," says Josée Méthot, the QMA's president and CEO.
Zero accidents
The QMA also highlights the outstanding performance of companies that recorded no accidents involving compensation or modified work assignments over the last year. They are:
• Camflo Mill, Monarques Gold Corporation;
• Omya Canada, Saint-Armand Plant;
• Dumas.
"There can be no doubt that the mining industry is a leader in the field of workplace health and safety. A serious approach is taken to the subject and the Association, like its members, takes action on a daily basis to maintain a high level of performance. The F.J. O’Connell trophy recognizes the efforts made by mining companies, but the true reward, one in which we all share, is the constantly-improving WHS results posted by the mining industry," Josée Méthot concludes.
