Québec City, April 26, 2018 – Around 100 people working in the mining industry gathered at the Ground Control Seminar organized by the Québec Mining Association (QMA) to listen to talks and discuss best practices in the field of ground control, rock mechanics and support.

"The objective of the Seminar is to give each participant something to think about, along with the tools needed to work more effectively in each mine while reducing accident risks and operating costs. This type of event allows workers to learn from each other," says Josée Méthot, the QMA's president and CEO.

The aim of ground control is to ensure the stability of all above-ground and below-ground mine works and prevent rock slides, the failure of rock openings, rock bursts, and so on.

It is important for the Québec Mining Association to offer its members opportunities to meet and share information, with the ongoing objective of improving mining methods. "From development to mine closure, ground control is essential to ensure that mine sites are safe for everybody. Workplace health and safety is a priority for the QMA and we know that it is also a priority for our members, who focus constantly on providing their workers with a safe working environment," Ms. Méthot concludes.
