A STUDENT FROM THE MUNICIPALITY OF LABELLE RECEIVES AN AWARD FROM THE QUÉBEC MINING ASSOCIATION
15/02/2018
Québec City, February 15, 2018 – The Québec Mining Association (QMA) is pleased to announce that Mikaël Morin-Innes, originally from Labelle and currently a student in mine engineering at Polytechnique Montréal, has been awarded the 2018 mining industry scholarship. The $1,000 scholarship is presented to a Bachelor's-level student who intends to continue a university program in Québec in the Earth sciences.
Mikaël Morin-Innes was selected in part because of his excellent academic record. "The mining industry is facing some major challenges, in particular the renewal of a skilled workforce in order to ensure its development and future viability," says Josée Méthot, the QMA's president and CEO. "As a result, it is important to encourage students and help them continue in university programs that will prepare them effectively for a career in the mining industry and the challenges they will deal with."
The mining industry has helped create and maintain 45,500 jobs, including 1,000 in the Laurentians. Many different, well-paid positions will need to be filled in the future, and a range of interesting options are available for students who embark on a career in the mining sector.
