A STUDENT FROM SAINT-BRUNO-DE-MONTARVILLE RECEIVES AN AWARD FROM THE QUÉBEC MINING ASSOCIATION

Québec City, February 15, 2018 – The Québec Mining Association (QMA) is pleased to announce that Laura Paquet, originally from Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville and currently a student in the Bachelor's level geological engineering program at Polytechnique Montréal, has been awarded the 2018 mining industry scholarship. The $1,000 scholarship is presented to a Bachelor's-level student who intends to continue a university program in Québec in the Earth sciences.
Laura Paquet was selected in part because of her excellent academic record, and also her involvement in the community. "The mining industry is facing some major challenges, in particular the renewal of a skilled workforce in order to ensure its development and future viability," says Josée Méthot, the QMA's president and CEO. "As a result, it is important to encourage students and help them continue in university programs that will prepare them effectively for a career in the mining industry and the challenges they will deal with."
The mining industry has helped create and maintain 45,500 jobs, including 1,000 in the Montérégie region. Many different, well-paid positions will need to be filled in the future, and a range of interesting options are available for students who embark on a career in the mining sector.
