25TH ANNUAL QUÉBEC MINING WEEK

Québec City, April 25, 2016 – The Québec Mining Association (QMA) is pleased to announce that the activities for the 25th annual edition of Québec Mining Week will take place between now and April 30, in various regions of Québec. Its objective is to make the mining industry and its techniques better known, through conferences, trade fairs, open-door events, and more. The provincial launch is on April 25 at the Richmont Mines' Beaufor division in Val-d’Or.
"The members of the organizing committees for Québec Mining Week are proud to have put together a wide range of activities to transmit some of their passion for the mining sector. It is clear that with its total of 45,000 direct and indirect jobs and its investments of $2.3 billion in the regions, the mining industry can only benefit from being better known. Québec Mining Week provides an opportunity to showcase our know-how and our dynamic approach to the general population, year after year," says Josée Méthot, the QMA's President and CEO.
Many outstanding mines are already operating in Québec, and other projects are underway. Mining companies act as true partners for the communities where they operate, and they carefully ensure social acceptability of their projects. Sustainable development is a key concern for Québec's mining industry, which targets innovation to develop new exploration and extraction techniques, allowing to limit the footprint of its activities, from mine opening to mine closure and site rehabilitation.
"Québec Mining Week makes Quebecers of all ages more aware of the mining sector and provides more information on what we do. I invite the population to look at the program and take part in some of the activities during the week to discover, or rediscover, what makes mining such a driving force in our communities," Ms. Méthot continues.
