Québec City, October 24, 2016 – In the view of the Québec Mining Association (QMA), the 2016-2020 Québec Export Strategy will raise the international visibility of small and medium-sized enterprises in the mining sector, and will also provide an appreciable level of support during downturns in Québec's mining cycle.

"As we all know, the mining sector is cyclical. In a downturn, it is essential for companies to target more than one market to maintain their jobs and operations. With government support and better coordination, small and medium-sized enterprises in Québec will find it easier to develop these indispensable new markets. This is why we welcome this export strategy, which will also help showcase all the talent and know-how of Québec firms," comments Josée Méthot, the QMA's president and CEO.

The Association is pleased to see that the mining sector is a priority for the government and hopes that the actions described in the strategy will generate concrete results. "There are many overlooked business opportunities. This strategy should make it easier to connect supply and demand and we fully support the intention behind it. Let's hope that it delivers," Ms. Méthot concludes.
